Alloy Steel Forging Supplier

Alloy Steel (forging materials)

Cromdane Steel Inc. is a high-quality alloy steel forgings supplier who meets all customer’s material and close tolerance design requirements.

Alloy Steel Forgings Characteristics

Alloy steel is one of the most popular materials for forging. Forged alloy steel bars offer improved mechanical properties when compared to carbon steel. Depending on the alloying elements used, improvements can be seen in toughness, hardness, strength, wear and resistance.

Most alloy steels contain between .2 and .55 percent carbon. These steels are often used in automotive, oil & gas, refinery, mining and other machinery industries. Alloy steels are typically quenched and tempered for high strength and toughness. Manganese, nickel, chromium, molybdenum, vanadium, aluminum and boron are commonly present in these steels and enhance the properties obtainable by quenching and tempering. Alloy steel is also more responsive to mechanical and heat treatments than carbon steel.

Benefits of forged alloy steel:

  • Eliminate the occurrence of shrinkage, porosity and cavities which are usually encountered in castings
  • Grain structure provides high wear resistance
  • Tougher and more robust than casted steels
  • High strength reinforced through added elements that have been introduced to the carbon steel
  • Impact strength is higher than casted steel

Alloy steel forgings are often used automotive, oil & gas, refinery, mining and other machinery industries. Forged alloy steel bar is often used in mechanical power transmission, rotating equipment, wear components, pressuring containing, lifting and other high-stress applications.
